Her breakthrough work was the book No et moi (No andThe ending felt a bit too abrupt and I would've liked to see more closure overall, but apart from that, I?d highly recommend it.Their teacher Helene recognises something in Theo from her own troubled childhood.There is a caped crusader type of teacher who is suspicious of neglect and abuse, but some of her actions ask the reader to suspend disbelief too much.There are no discussion topics on this book yet.Though the novel centres around two 12 year old boys, it is the parents in the story who have caused the damage.They are loyal to their friend, husband, job or parent.A powerful, perceptive, pertinent, piercingly accurate portrayal of children's pain in our society that knocks Ian McEwan's pretentious The Children Act off its perch for starters.Overlapping multiple characters in such a short span of pages assured me this would either be quite gripping, or quite mundane.In 2011, she published a novel Rien ne s'oppose a la nuit (Nothing holds back the night) that deals with a family coping with their mother's bipolar disorder.

I am very much into books about mother-daughter relationships.Le livre, peut-etre, ne serait rien d?autre que ca, le recit de cette quete, contiendrait en lui-meme sa propre genese, ses errances narratives, ses tentatives inachevees.It is such a well written book and I really enjoyed her writing style as well as the way she was able to capture events.What we find out is that Lucile has a bipolar disorder (manic depression) and how it affects her life and the lives of her children.She ultimately chooses death, and it's her suicide that pushed the author into a dissection of her life and her family history.De Vigan wrote the screenplay for a rather good film called You will be my son.She goes through a bunch of photos, letters, texts and interviews people to get to know her mother better.It's heartbreaking to read of her aimless rambles, the useless objects she would spend her money on, the destructive love affairs, the cigarettes and alcohol. This is how you handle the issue of having no home.Amazingly, the book manages to depict the atmosphere of the city without making it a key factor.It was just a lousy summer job, but to her, it was more than good enough.I was leaning towards 4 stars until that.It wasn't at all insta-love, but one moment they?re friends, and the next.If you did not know that it was originally published in French, you'd have no idea that English wasn't the original language.There?s no way you?re a child anymore but you?re only just a teenager, and everything is changing.It did not, whatsoever, spark my interest from the first to the last page.Very few with hearts made of gold will provide.She tells you to much, instead of the author describing it.I really and truly felt for her, especially when she was determined to stick with No even at the expense of defying her parents.
